Active Shooter or Just a Prank? How Your Campus Can Combat Swatting

There's been a rash of swatting incidents against schools in the United States. Swatting – when a false report is made to police about an active shooter, a bomb threat, or other incident designed to draw police to the scene – creates incredibly dangerous situations for students and staff, as police come armed to the scene, in force, often with weapons drawn. NPR reports that 182 schools were victims of swatting in the five weeks between September 15 and October 21 alone. What must schools know about this potentially life-threatening type of incident? What are the options for handling these situations and defusing them before potentially traumatizing students and putting their lives in danger? Join us for this presentation as we explore this surprisingly widespread phenomenon and take a look at some of the solutions available to schools.
